Storm and Outage Details

Memorial Day Weekend 2019 Storms

Update: 7:45 PM, 5/26/2019

A strong tornado and straight-line winds pushed through the southern Tulsa metro area, including Jenks and Broken Arrow, in the early morning hours of May 26th causing extensive damage to portions of PSO’s transmission and distribution systems.

The storm left a trail of destruction along 71st St. from Hwy 75 South to 257th E. Ave., and angling northeastward to 31st St. Large numbers of trees and tree limbs are down, some of which fell across power lines, tearing those down and breaking a number of poles.

PSO transmission line equipment is down in Broken Arrow at 91st and Pecan west of Elm. PSO removed the transmission lines that had fallen across the Creek Turnpike and Hwy 75.

As of this update 719 PSO customers were without power in the affected area, down from the peak of 31,282 around 2 a.m. Most of the affected customers are in the southern Tulsa metro area.

We have essentially completed restoration of service to our customers in the Chouteau area.

These numbers will continue to decline as we make progress in restoring power. For the latest numbers, please go to our outage website:

Overall Estimated Time of Restoration

We have made significant progress in restoring service throughout the day and will continue working overnight.

Please note that the ETRs apply to customers in the areas that suffered the most damage. Many customers will have service restored sooner.

Assuming there are no additional weather-related outages PSO expects to complete restoration of service by Monday, May 27th, at 5 p.m. to customers in the most heavily damaged Tulsa metro area who can take power.

Due to an extensive storm impact in the area around 91st & Pecan in Broken Arrow, we are still assessing the damage to PSO’s facilities. We will provide an ETR for this area as soon as it is available. Please note this estimated time of restoration could be later than the overall ETR for this storm.

Please note that power WILL be restored to the majority of customers who can take power well before these estimated targets.

Storm Response Update

All PSO crews based in the Tulsa metro area are working to repair the storm damage and restore electric service to all customers who can take power. We have also called in PSO crews from McAlester and Lawton, as well as AEP companies and contractors from Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.

PSO has 439 workers focused on restoring power in the Tulsa metro area.

PSO will keep working around the clock to complete the job of repairing damage and restoring power.

  • For safety’s sake, assume that any downed utility line is energized with deadly electric current. Stay away from the line and do not touch it with anything. Report it to PSO at 1-888-218-3919.

  • Please do not approach utility repair vehicles. You may be jeopardizing your safety. The vehicles are large and it can be hard for the drivers to see a person who has walked up to make inquiries.

• If the electric service entrance (meter loop) to your home or business has been damaged or

pulled away from the structure, you will need to have it repaired by a licensed electrician before PSO can re-connect service.

  • If you use a generator, please follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions. Do not operate the unit indoors. Connect appliances directly to the generator’s electric outlets…not to the main electrical panel of your home or business unless you have had an electric load transfer switch installed to isolate your home’s wiring from PSO’s electric system. Otherwise, you jeopardize the safety of utility workers.
